The Octane Challenge – Winner – JC Meynet’s 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
Heading into the voting portion of the Octane Challenge, Meynet held a large margin with his ultra-fast 1:24.985 lap time at Willow Springs. 2.6-liters of Cosworth power and three-way adjustable JRZ coilovers helped the mighty Subaru decimate the self-proclaimed “fastest track in the west” with the quickest time of the day. 4.4-seconds separated Meynet from second place Andrew Kidd’s turbocharged Mazda Miata, which set a very quick 1:29.324 time of its own.
When voting for the Octane Challenge was finally counted on October 23, the results were surprising. Kidd used the support of online Miata and track enthusiasts to collect an incredible 1,773 votes, more than 1,100 votes over second place Meynet. Never doubt the popularity of a quick Miata. Tom Barrett rounded out the top three in the voting portion, collecting an impressive 434 votes. It was a commendable performance by Kidd, and he could have taken it all had Meynet finished just a few places lower in the voting, but Meynet is now the winner of the first Octane Challenge.
With a great performance on track and a solid number of votes, Meynet consistently finished high enough to take the overall win. Taking the grand prize, Meynet’s Subaru WRX STI will be on display at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 3rd-6th and then will compete in the Super Lap Battle time attack finals on November 11th at Buttonwillow Raceway. If you find yourself awake in Vegas, stumble in and come check us out, booth #10459 in the North Hall.
And be sure to keep an eye out here for the next Octane Challenge!
